diaspora*
diaspora* is a social network like Facebook that nobody owns. You join a community server (a pod) or run your own, share posts and photos with groups of friends you choose, and still talk to people on other pods.
How hard it is to start using it. Easy: install it like a normal app, or use it in your browser. Advanced: you run it on your own server, use the command line, or it is a tool for developers.
