Open-source alternatives to Snapchat
No open-source app replaces Snapchat yet.
Open alternatives
Nothing open does this yet. It's one of the gaps on the map: if you're building one, see what to reuse first.
Switching from Snapchat
Get your data out
- Log in at accounts.snapchat.com or open Settings, then My Data in the app.
- Pick the categories and a date range (or turn the range off for everything).
- Confirm your email and click Submit; download the zip from the email link or the My Data page.
You get: ZIP.
SourceWhat won't come over
- Snapchat aims to deliver within 7 days; large downloads take longer.
- A data request cannot be cancelled.

Before you build
Read the list of open-source projects at https://opensourceeverything.org/data/groups/stories.json. Compare it with my project or idea below. Tell me which projects overlap, what I could reuse instead of rewriting, and what mine does that none of them do.
